ENG| Cherries are the pride of the Jardim da Serra, in the municipality of Câmara de Lobos. They need cool weather to develop and ripen for harvesting in early summer, between May and June. In Madeira Island, these cherries are honoured with a festival to celebrate the harvest, where the whole community gets involved in creating a parade of floats where the cherry reigns supreme. They are smaller than other standard and imported cherries. It is juicy and melts easily in the mouth. It is not a cherry with a crunchy texture. It is almost like a berry, but with a stone inside.

Precisam de clima fresco para se desenvolverem e amadurecerem, sendo colhidas no início do verão, entre maio e junho. Na Ilha da Madeira, estas cerejas são homenageadas com um festival para celebrar a colheita, onde toda a comunidade se envolve na criação de um desfile de carros alegóricos onde a cereja reina suprema. São mais pequenas do que outras cerejas comuns e importadas. São suculentas e derretem facilmente na boca. Não é uma cereja com uma textura crocante. É quase como uma baga, mas com um caroço no interior.
